Music therapist, does the word “sequence” bring back “fond” memories of your theory classes? 😂

IMO music theory is an amazing tool but the way that it’s taught in school is absolutely outdated and mostly irrelevant for us (German augmented 6ths, anyone)? Research (throughout the decades) even indicated that we don’t use A LOT of what we’re taught in school and we don’t value it as much as, say, functional guitar skills (I did my masters thesis on this topic). 👀

BUT what makes music so pleasing for us is the constant prediction/fulfillment within the elements of music and the tasteful variations within that. Sequences are amazing for that because our brain detects the pattern, sets an expectation, and then we get gratification from the expectation being fulfilled! 💻

So try using a sequence in your songwriting for instantly gratifying music! 😋
